Planning a Natural and Intimate Wedding in a Venice vineyard: Derad & Kathryn’s Day at Venissa

Hey lovely,

Today we’re sharing the story of an intimate, elegant, and highly personalised wedding in the heart of the Venetian lagoon. Derad and Kathryn, a sweet couple from the US, entrusted us with full creative freedom to turn their vision — rooted in nature, simplicity and connection — into reality. The result? A design-forward experience filled with natural textures, conscious choices, and one unforgettable lighting feature.

But first — take a look through the gallery for a glimpse of their day.

A Tailored Ceremony Among the Vines

With a small group of guests and a clear desire for authenticity, the couple chose to host both ceremony and dinner at Venissa — a sustainable wine estate and Michelin-starred restaurant on Mazzorbo Island. Rare in Venice, Venissa is surrounded by vineyards and follows a philosophy of circular hospitality: local produce, zero-waste cooking, and deep respect for the territory.

We designed a ceremony layout that reflected their desire for something spontaneous yet meaningful: a semi-circle of chairs, natural floral compositions emerging from the ground, and the vineyard as their quiet backdrop. No altar, no barriers — just presence, and the beauty of the moment.

Pinterest to Reality: Interpreting Their Vision

Our design process always starts from listening. In this case, Derad and Kathryn shared a carefully curated Pinterest board, full of inspiration drawn from raw materials, neutral tones, stone textures and organic lines. We didn’t just replicate — we translated their mood into a custom concept, using lightweight florals, moss, and stone as visual anchors.

Every choice was discussed and shaped together, from the layout to the floral palette. Their trust allowed us to go beyond trends and build something truly tailored.

A Conscious Table Setting and a Green Star Dinner

The culinary experience was central to their day. Guests were treated to a Michelin green-starred meal — an award recognising sustainable gastronomy, seasonal ingredients, and minimal environmental impact. It’s the kind of value-driven excellence that speaks volumes, especially when paired with a setting that echoes those same ethics.

We kept the table design minimal and artisanal: hand-thrown ceramics, bare wood, and airy florals guiding the eye upward. Nothing was superfluous — everything was intentional.

Bespoke Light Design: A Modern Statement Piece

Above the long table, we designed a custom light sculpture, created specifically for the couple. A glowing thread, twisted into a delicate form, ran the length of the table — casting soft, sculptural light over the dinner. Small clusters of leaves completed the scene, adding a gentle rhythm that played with the movement of guests and the evening breeze.

This installation was not just decor — it was part of the story. An example of how we work side-by-side with couples and lighting designers to create something one-of-a-kind.

A Shimmering Ending

When the sun set, the final moment was pure poetry: the cake was cut beneath a fall of soft LED lights, bringing the evening to a close with a glow that was modern, magical, and completely theirs.
